Handstand Training in Chicago: Yes, You Can Learn One
Handstands are having a moment. They are all over YouTube. They are in the CrossFit Open. Your coworker will not stop talking about theirs.
And here is the funny thing. Most adults think a handstand is not for them. Too old. Too weak. Too scared of falling.
Wrong. A handstand is a skill. Skills can be learned. You just need the right steps and a coach who has done this before.
Why everyone wants one
A handstand looks cool. Sure. But it also builds real stuff. Strong shoulders. A strong core. Better balance. Body control you cannot get from a machine.
It also makes you brave. Going upside down is scary the first time. Doing it anyway changes how you walk into the gym.
Why most people fail on their own
Most people kick up at a wall and hope for the best. Then they fall. Then they quit.
The problem is not you. The problem is skipping steps. A handstand needs wrist prep. It needs shoulder strength. It needs to learn balance a little at a time. Random YouTube tries skip all of that.
How we teach it
At Chicago Movement Gym we break it into small wins. First you get strong holding yourself up. Then you get comfy upside down at the wall. Then you learn to bail out safe. Then balance. Then the freestanding handstand.
No guessing. No crashing. Each step builds the next one. This is how we train the Ido Portal Method, and handstands are a big part of it.
We are the only true Ido Portal Method movement gym in Chicago. This is what we do all day, every day.
