Mobility vs Stretching in Chicago: Why Stretching Is Not Enough
Mobility training in Chicago is not the same as stretching. A lot of people mix them up. Here is the difference.
Stretching is pulling on a muscle to make it longer. Mobility is being able to move a joint all the way, and control it there.
Think of a rubber band and a door. You can pull a rubber band all day. That does not make the door open any wider. Your body is the door. You need strength and control at the end of the move, not just a long muscle.
That is why you can stretch your hips for years and still feel stiff. Your body does not trust a spot it cannot control. So it says no.
What works better
1. Move the joint slow, all the way, with control.
2. Hold the end spot and push into it a little.
3. Build strength there. Squats, lunges and hangs all count.
4. Do it a little every day.
Stretching is fine. It feels good. Just do not stop there.
