Deep Squat Mobility in Chicago: Get Your Squat Back

Deep squat mobility in Chicago starts with one question. When did you last sit all the way down?

Not a gym squat. Not a bar on your back. I mean butt to heels, feet flat, chest up. Little kids do it all day. Most grown-ups can't. We sit in chairs for years and the body forgets.

Here's the deal. Deep squat mobility is just your hips, knees and ankles being able to do their job. If one is stuck, the others pay. That is why your knees ache and your low back gets tight.

Why it matters

- Stiff ankles push your knees in.

- Tight hips round your back.

- Weak feet make the whole squat wobble.

Think of a door hinge. If one hinge is rusty, the door scrapes. Your body is the same.

A simple way to start

1. Stand with feet a bit wider than your hips. Turn your toes out a little.

2. Sink down slow. Keep your whole foot on the floor.

3. Hold on to a pole or a door frame if you need help.

4. Stay for 30 seconds. Breathe. Rest. Do it again.

5. Do this a few times a week. Add time as it gets easy.

Don't push through sharp pain. Stiff is fine. Sharp is not.
